Our Founder:

William George ClarkWilliam George Clark, founded Freeport Resources Inc. in 1981. Mr. Clark, originally from Saskatchewan, spent many years in the North West Territories, living in both Yellowknife and Aklavik. His work at the Giant Gold Mine and the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line took him throughout the Western Arctic, from Aklavik to Tuktoyaktuk. This time led to his long-term passion for exploration, mining, and Canada's north. A well-respected entrepreneur and member of the Vancouver business community, Clark was well known for integrity, diligence, sense of humour, and vision.

Our Approach:

Freeport is managed by a core group of directors and officers, in consultation with a number of highly specialized geoscientists and advisors. Our approach reflects the diverse nature of Freeport's projects, with varied target minerals, in distinct geological settings, and at different stages of development. Freeport's corporate strategy is based on our belief that exposure to multiple projects is beneficial to shareholders as it increases chances for discovery of economic deposits and long-term success.

Brenda S. Clark, B.A., ARCT, B.Arch., MAIBCPresident, CEO, Director
Brenda Clark has been involved with Freeport for over 14 years. After acting as VP, Commercial Development, for 2 years, she was appointed President, CEO and Director in 1995. Born in Aklavik, NWT, Clark shares her father's passion for mineral exploration and personally staked the Hutton claims. Ms. Clark is also a registered architect, with a unique background in land use planning and development, including community consultation, heritage and sustainability issues. She resides in Richmond, BC.
Martin MacKinnon, MBA
Martin was appointed as Director in 2018, after serving as CFO since 2012. He has over 30 years experience in developing new strategic corporate directions. With a broad background in financing, Martin is also a well-known lecturer in finance, residing in Halifax, NS. He studied at St. Francis Xavier University before completing his MBA. After graduating, he acted as CFO for a variety of private enterprises, from physiotherapy clinics to the hospitality industry. In 2007, he became the CFO for a publicly traded mining company while creating an IT company focussed on the hospitality industry, called B4CheckIn. Outside of work, Martin is active in federal politics and has even run for office. He specializes in new ventures (business start-ups, funding, performance improvements) and high growth business.
Michael L. Roberts, P.E. (Purdue)Director (Advisory Board)
Michael Lee Roberts is a founding Director, with Freeport on an ongoing basis since 1981. Mr. Roberts has a long history in oil and gas and mineral exploration. He plays an active role in project management, engineering and the day to day operations at Freeport. From Indiana, Roberts now resides in Fort Worth, Texas. His career has largely focused on oil and gas research & development, with 12 years in the oil field and 2 at Gulf Research in oil field technology (Tertiary recovery). Roberts is known for imaginative yet practical approaches to varied technical and engineering issues.
Douglas A Perkins, B.Sc. (Geol. Exploration), FGACVice President, Exploration, and Director (Advisory Board)
Douglas Perkins is a well-known Vancouver geologist and Freeport's Vice President, Exploration, involved in mineral exploration for over 20 years. Mr. Perkins has broad experience in a wide range of geological environments. With extensive knowledge of placer gold mining, he was Freeport's sole manager in Panama. Perkins has worked on most of Freeport's BC projects: The Tatshenshini (base metals), Red Rose (tungsten-gold) and Spanish Mountain Gold. His career began at Cyprus Anvil Mining on the Cirque and related deposits in north central BC. He was appointed to the Advisory Board in 2001 after serving as Director since the 1980's.
Dr. Derek H. Wilton, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., P.Geo.Director (Advisory Board)
Derek Wilton was appointed to the Advisory Board in September 2007. Dr. Wilton is a well-known geologist and professor of mineral deposits and metallogenic research at Memorial University, St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador (NL). Since 1984, he has been a faculty member at MUN and engaged in mineral deposit research in Newfoundland, and especially Labrador. Dr. Wilton is also the Geology 101 columnist for the Northern Miner, a renowned lecturer and the recipient of many awards. A St. John's native, Wilton received his B.Sc. from MUN, his M.Sc. from the UBC, and his Ph.D. from MUN -- thus familiar with the geology of both NL and BC.
John Fleming, M.Sc., P.Geo.Director (Advisory Board)
John Fleming was appointed to the Advisory Board in November 2008. Mr. Fleming's impressive geological career spans both public and private sectors, with 30 years at the Government of Newfoundland & Labrador (NL) prior to establishing a natural resources and environmental management consulting practice in 1996. Fleming has served in many roles, including Director of the NL Geological Survey, Deputy Minister of the Departments of Mines, Environment and Lands, and also Environment and Labour. Fleming is known for a balanced approach to the importance of economic development within a larger framework of sustainability.
